  • WHAT HAPPENED?

Until the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, qualified teams could select one base camp in the host country for the squad to stay throughout the course of the tournament. Teams found it comforting as the national federations would provide all the necessary facilities inside the camp, including accommodating the players' families close to the base.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

FIFA, however, has changed that rule starting the 2026 World Cup, where three North American nations, the USA, Canada and Mexico, will co-host the competition. The new rule states that all the teams that make it from the group stage will have to change their base and set up a new one where they will play their knockout matches.

    DID YOU KNOW?

Per The Telegraph, England and Tuchel are unhappy with the change in the rule and the German coach, along with the FA, will challenge FIFA's decision ahead of the World Cup. The Three Lions are reportedly thinking of setting up their base camp in Kansas, as geographically it is placed at the centre of the country and it connects all the match venues in less than four hours' time.

    WHAT NEXT FOR TUCHEL?

The former Chelsea boss is scheduled to travel to Florida next week to watch Manchester City take on Juventus in a Club World Cup group stage clash on June 26. During his trip to the US, Tuchel will also look for potential base camps.
