    WHAT HAPPENED?

The former Manchester United forward disclosed his involvement in his wife Coleen Rooney's highly-publicized 'Wagatha Christie' trial against Rebekah Vardy, wife of Leicester star Jamie. The trial stemmed from accusations made by Coleen against Rebekah for allegedly leaking stories to the media.

Coleen orchestrated an intricate Instagram sting in 2019 to uncover the source of the leaks, leading to a legal battle between the two prominent footballers' wives in 2022. Rooney actively supported his wife throughout the two-week trial, attending court sessions alongside her.

  • WHAT ROONEY SAID

In a recent interview on the Stick to Football podcast, Rooney revealed his fascination with the legal sector and his hands-on approach during the trial.

"Sometimes you’ve got to have a bit of fun with the media! To be fair, it [criminal law] is something that I’ve always watched and looked at as well," he said. "When Coleen had the court case with Rebekah Vardy, I was there with the barrister and the lawyers, and I was saying to the barrister, 'you need to ask this question!'"

  • THE BIGGER PICTURE

Rooney's input may have had an effect as Rebekah lost the case and was slapped with a £3 million legal bill. However, his interest in the law persisted post-trial, as he ended up applying for a law course at Nottingham University.

"I did apply – it was to Nottingham University - I applied to go in and try and study, but then I did go away," he added. "I want to do it to get one of those wigs on!"
