United legend Robin van Persie has returned to Old Trafford on Boxing Day to watch his former club take on Aston Villa in the Premier League. The former Dutch international was seen giving away autographs and clicking selfies with fans ahead of kick-off.

With Sir Jim Ratcliffe's INEOS group taking a 25% stake in the club for approximately £1.25 billion ($1.58b) on Christmas Eve, the Red Devils will hope to turn things around starting with the Villans' clash on Tuesday. The British Billionaire has vowed to pump in £237m ($300m) of future investment into Old Trafford.

Having already lost eight times in the Premier League this season, Erik ten Hag's side cannot afford to drop further points if they want to finish in the European places. After the clash against Unai Emery's team, they are set to face Nottingham Forest in the final game of 2023.
