WATCH: Deadpool accepts ‘Welcome to Wrexham’ Emmy on behalf of ‘Mr. Lively’ Ryan Reynolds & Rob McElhenney – with Red Dragons co-owners reacting to ‘greatest privilege’

The FX-produced show returned for a second season in 2023, with that series telling the story of how the Red Dragons brought a 15-year absence from the English Football League to a close in record-breaking style – while also covering promotion for the club’s women’s team and a number of community-led stories.

Reynolds and McElhenney have spoken of their pride at seeing ‘Welcome to Wrexham’ recognised, with a light-hearted acceptance speech video seeing McElhenney cut off as Reynold's anti-hero ‘Deadpool’ takes centre stage. He says: “Whoo! Wow! Umm… Mr. Lively couldn’t be here to accept this broken Emmy, so he sent me on his behalf. First and foremost, Wrexham, we love you. Thank you for letting Rob and the other guy tell your story. I’d also like to thank the Academy for this honour and for not asking to attend the televised awards show with the real celebrities. Mr Lively promises to not f*ck up my next movie.”

‘Welcome to Wrexham’ has helped to raise the club’s profile throughout the world, with visitors from overseas now common at SToK Racecourse. The club has become particularly popular in the United States, with there an ever-growing fanbase to be found there.

The show will be back for a third season, which could cover another promotion. Phil Parkinson has his side riding high in the League Two table, while a productive FA Cup run has carried the club into the fourth round of that competition.
