    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Roque arrived at Barcelona from Athletico Paranaense in January but was afforded precious little game time from former coach Xavi - just 319 minutes spread across 14 La Liga appearances. SPORT has reported the club would be willing to let the 19-year-old go, but only for a permanent sale in excess of €40 million (£34m/$43m). Al-Hilal were seemingly prepared to do it, as well as offer handsome personal terms, but Roque said no. His determination to prove himself to new Barca boss Hansi Flick comes amid summer interest in Nico Williams and Dani Olmo.

  • DID YOU KNOW?

Roque has a contract at Barcelona until the summer of 2031, seven and a half years from the point of his arrival. The transfer fee saw €30m (£26m/$32m) guaranteed, with as much again payable in potential add-ons.
