The seven-time world champion was still in his teens the last time that the Gunners got their hands on a domestic crown – with the fabled ‘Invincibles’ going an entire 38-game season unbeaten back in 2003-04. Some 20 years have now passed since that triumph.

Mikel Arteta has pushed Arsenal back into title contention, with a late collapse dashing their dreams 12 months ago. Another challenge has been pieced together this season, with the north London giants currently perched at the summit.

Hamilton is desperate to see the Gunners get over the line, saying “of course, I’m so happy, I’ve been waiting for this my whole life” when asked if he is pleased with how recent results have played out – with a dramatic 3-2 derby victory enjoyed over arch-rivals Tottenham last time out.

The problem for Hamilton and the rest of the Arsenal faithful is that title fate is no longer in their own hands, with defending champions Manchester City just a point off the pace while boasting a game in hand. The Gunners will be back in action on Saturday lunchtime when playing host to Bournemouth.
