The 18-year-old wonderkid figured for his country in the thumping 6-0 victory after shaking off a slight knock that had cast some doubt over his involvement. He was able to complete 73 minutes, registering two assists in the process.

While there was no drama for him to contend with on the field, it was a different matter when attempting to head home. While sitting on the team bus, it emerged that Yamal had misplaced an important document.

The talented teenager was clearly fuming at himself for failing to keep tabs of his passport, as he was forced to rummage through his suitcase on the floor of the car park underneath the Torku Arena in Konya. That search proved fruitless, which did little to lighten Yamal’s mood.

The level of celebrity that Yamal now boasts means that he is in the fortunate position of being able to enjoy special treatment when things go wrong. His passport mishap will have been smoothed out, allowing him to return to Catalonia ahead of Barcelona’s La Liga home date with Valencia on Sunday.
