Macron was in the tunnel before PSG played Lyon in the Coupe de France final and he was spotted having a conversation with the striker. It is unclear what exactly was said but it may have been 'au revoir', as the superstar prepares to leave and join Real Madrid this summer.

Macron has taken a personal interest in Mbappe's career and has seemingly already spoken to Real Madrid over his hope that the striker will be able to represent France at the 2024 Olympics as an over-age player. It is as yet unclear if the Spanish club will allow that to happen.

Mbappe is likely to sign off with a trophy before heading to Spain, barring a shock late U-turn. Given the names involved, that can never be ruled out.
