Getty Images SportSami Al-Jaber, the Al-Hilal legend, has urged the Al-Nassr management to consider a major attacking change, pointing to what "the Leader" did with Frenchman Karim Benzema, after "the Global Club" lost to Al-Ittihad in the summit clash of the fifth round of the Saudi Roshn League.
Al-Nassr went down 2-1 to hosts Al-Ittihad on Saturday evening. Captain Cristiano Ronaldo drew fresh criticism after the Portuguese failed to steer "the Global Club" to a result in the top-of-the-table showdown.
Al-Jaber's comments came in response to criticism from former Al-Nassr star Hussein Abdulghani, who felt Ronaldo had not been influential against Al-Ittihad. Abdulghani pointed out that the player would not stay at the top forever, and called for him not to be relied upon as a permanent starter.
Al-Jaber said: "Why did Al-Nassr not think about signing a strong striker? This is the difference when we see how Al-Hilal dealt with Benzema, whose level clearly declined, and he was thanked with class, and Ollie Watkins was brought into the leader's attack."
He added: "The entity is more important than any name, and any player, because the club is what will remain, and we do not keep saying that Ronaldo is staying so that he can strive to reach 1,000 goals."
