UEFA 'would like' Champions League games played in the United States, CBS Sports CEO confirms

David Berson, president and chief executive of CBS Sports, has spoken optimistically about the possibility of UEFA staging a Champions League game on American soil in the future.

CBS Sports broadcasts Champions League and Europa League football in the United States via its own network and the Paramount+ streaming platform. Paramount Global owns CBS and is about to embark on a new six-year broadcast deal worth $1.5 billion. The Champions League in particular has enjoyed significant growth for an American audience, while CBS' studio show featuring the likes of Micah Richard and Jamie Carragher, anchored by Kate Abdo, has massive social media reach. The idea of a game therefore being played outside Europe to further satisfy that demand is something that has been talked about for some time.

Berson told The Athletic in a press conference ahead of this season's Champions League final: "We have nothing to say along those lines at this moment in time, but I would not be surprised if over the course of these next six years, you'll see that in play. It's something we welcome. I think it's something UEFA would like."

This season's Champions League final on June 1 will be contested between Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund. The former are seeking their record-extending 15th European title, while the latter are on the hunt for a first since 1997 and only second overall.
