'David has been a good friend of mine for a long time' - Tom Brady reveals Inter Miami owner Beckham's influence on buying Birmingham as he credits England legend with 'pretty amazing' work

NFL icon Brady has spoken about how "good friend" Beckham has successfully transitioned from being a footballer to a club owner and how he has consulted with him to gain valuable information about the sport. He used the success story of Inter Miami's rise and how he is attempting to follow that example.

When asked about who Brady turned to to learn about English football, he said on the Men in Blazers YouTube channel: "David has been a good friend of mine for a long time. Obviously, watching his career... he comes over to the MLS, has great success for the [LA] Galaxy. How he transitioned into sports ownership is pretty amazing. His club here, Inter Miami, have done great things. They've got a whole real estate project going on in Miami, building a new stadium... I see, and first-hand living here, what that does to the community. I have a lot of friends in sports, not only just in soccer but also in American Football, that I consult on a lot of things. I feel like we're always here to learn and grow and put ourselves in positions to expand our knowledge base, and beyond playing, there was no greater transition I can have than being involved in sports teams."

Brady has been a minority owner at Birmingham for nearly two years but is understood to own less than five per cent of the club. Beckham, on the other hand, is a co-owner at Miami and has a huge say over the direction of the Major League Soccer side. The ex-Manchester United man has a wealth of experience on and off the pitch when it comes to football, and it seems Brady has learned a lot from the 50-year-old as he tries to make a good fist of it at Premier League-chasing Birmingham.

After securing an immediate return to the Championship, following a romping march to the League One title last season, Brady's Birmingham will hope to start this upcoming campaign with a bang as they take on Ipswich Town at St Andrew's on August 8.
