Teenage wonderkid Chido Obi takes Man Utd record from Mason Greenwood in historic Premier League selection from Red Devils

At just 17 years of age, promising forward Obi has been named in a top-flight starting XI for the first time. He was given the nod by Ruben Amorim for a clash with Brentford at the Gtech Community Stadium.

All five of Obi’s Premier League appearances to date, which have totalled just 60 minutes of action, came from off the bench. He is considered to be a hot prospect at Old Trafford and a future superstar in the making.

An entry in the record books has been secured, with the teen sensation becoming the youngest player to start a top-flight fixture for United. Said record has been taken from Mason Greenwood, who is now on the books of Marseille.

Amorim’s starting XI against Brentford is the youngest named by the Red Devils in the Premier League era, at an average age of just 22 years and 270 days. It is the third youngest named by any side since 1992.

United need stars of the future to start delivering in the present, as they sit 15th in the Premier League table. They hold a commanding lead in their Europa League semi-final tie with Athletic Club, with one eye being kept on the club's pursuit of continental glory in 2025.
