Sergio Aguero hails Lionel Messi for 'elevating' MLS & addresses whether Cristiano Ronaldo could join Inter Miami icon in United States

Messi has been a revelation in the United States, scoring 34 goals and registering 18 assists in 39 games, and has propelled the club to the MLS Supporters' Shield and the Leagues Cup. Miami finished top of the Eastern Conference in 2024, although they were beaten in the playoffs.

Aguero has now hailed Messi's impact on the sport in the USA, although he does not believe that his eternal rival, Ronaldo, will be lured stateside. He is currently playing for Al-Nassr in the Saudi Pro League, and is continuing to score at a similar pace to his Argentine rival.

Speaking to Stake.com, Aguero said: "I don’t think [Ronaldo will go to the MLS], so there’s little point in speculating. That said, Messi’s arrival has already elevated the MLS a great deal. The league's becoming more and more competitive as progressively bigger stars have joined."

Manchester United legend Dwight Yorke has previously claimed he expects Ronaldo to eventually head to America, but for now, he looks set to remain in Saudi Arabia. It has been reported that the 39-year-old has agreed to extend his contract at Al-Nassr beyond the end of the season, with an official announcement expected soon.
