Man Utd legend Ruud van Nistelrooy set to be sacked by Leicester after relegation to Championship but faces agonising wait to be relieved of duties

Leicester gained promotion to the Premier League at the end of the 2023-24 season, but they lasted just one year in the top division as they finished 18th in the competition and returned to the Championship. The Foxes parted ways with Steve Cooper in November after just 12 matches in charge when the club were placed 16th on the league table. Manchester United legend Van Nistelrooy replaced the ex-Nottingham boss at the helm, but the Dutchman endured a nightmare campaign that saw the club lose 17 out of 19 matches and go nine games straight without scoring a goal and losing all the matches.

Despite the Foxes' relegation being confirmed on April 20, Van Nistelrooy continued to remain in charge of the team until the end of the season. While no decision has been communicated to the manager until now, The Sun reports that Leicester have decided to sack the United icon. The club are waiting for June 30 as they cannot afford to sack two managers in one season and bear the financial brunt in the same year.

The Foxes have already started looking for Van Nistelrooy's replacements and have been linked with a move for Sean Dyche. The club were also looking at Russell Martin, but the head coach has already taken the Rangers job.

Leicester are still waiting to find out how many points they will be docked due to financial irregularities. They will also have a restricted budget, although Dyche is unlikely to have any problem with the restrictions.
