Rumoured Chelsea interest in Newcastle hitman Alexander Isak rubbished as exorbitant price tag provides stumbling block

The Blues have been linked with a move for the Sweden international as they look to strengthen in attack in an effort to improve on their disappointing 2023-24 campaign. However, the Blues have decided against moving for Isak,Matt Law reports, as Newcastle's asking price is far too high.

Newcastle are said to be asking for around £115 million ($145m) for the 24-year-old after Chelsea made an enquiry about a possible deal. The London side have spent big over the last two years, but may have to settle for a more low-key summer to avoid breaching Premier League financial rules. They will instead be targeting young players with lower valuations.

Ex-Borussia Dortmund and Real Sociedad striker Isak scored 21 times in 30 Premier League appearances for Newcastle last season and is contracted to the club for another five years. Arsenal are also reported to be interested in signing him this year.

Chelsea are already on the verge of bringing in another striker in the near future, as it was reported on Wednesday that they have reached an agreement with Barcelona's 18-year-old striker Marc Guiu and will trigger his £5m ($6m) release clause.
