'Absolutely ridiculous' - Paul Scholes warns Man Utd he'd be 'offended' by Kobbie Mainoo sale as he delivers brutal verdict on Alejandro Garnacho

Reports have suggested United could consider selling Garnacho and fellow academy product Kobbie Mainoo to stay in line with the Premier League's profit and sustainability rules. While club legend Scholes would be okay with selling winger Garnacho, he said it would be "absolutely ridiculous" to offload midfielder Mainoo.

On talk of Mainoo being sold, he told TNT Sports: "It'd be absolutely ridiculous if the club had to sell him. All the hard work that the club had to do, he's been here since seven, eight years of age, Mainoo, and then you have to sell him for PSR rules? It's ridiculous. He's United's brightest spark, the leading man who could be here for the next five to 10 years."

On Garnacho, he added: "I can see it with Garnacho. I think United can get better than Garnacho. Although he's a young player and there's better to come, he's a little scruffy and his decision-making at times is really poor. Garnacho, I wouldn't be afraid or worried if they sold, Mainoo I'd be offended by that."

Garnacho was initially left out by United head coach Ruben Amorim, along with team-mate Marcus Rashford, but he has been integrated back into the fold in recent weeks. The 20-year-old has been the subject of a transfer bid from Napoli and of him and Mainoo, it seems more likely that he will leave the Old Trafford club.

It remains to be seen if Garnacho, who started in United's Premier League clash at home to Southampton on Saturday, will still be at the Red Devils when the January transfer window closes in a couple of weeks.
