Revealed: Why Andre Onana did not make Man Utd squad for final day encounter against Aston Villa as Saudi Pro League club lines up £35m transfer swoop

Onana's horror season at United was expected to end with a clash against Aston Villa at Old Trafford. However, the Cameroonian goalkeeper was left out of the Red Devils squad by Amorim, with Altay Bayindir starting in his place. The decision to drop Onana comes as the 20-time Premier League champions reportedly look to sign a new goalkeeper this summer. However, it has now been revealed why the former Inter Milan goalkeeper has been left out of the squad.

Journalist Ben Jacobs claims that United decided to leave Onana out of the squad to hand the former FC Barcelona academy player significant amounts of rest as he is set to join up with the Cameroon national team after the end of the club season. Additionally, Onana is also set to travel to India soon as part of a sponsorship event.

In 101 appearances with United since joining the side in 2023, Onana has only kept 24 clean sheets and has conceded 148 goals. In the Premier League, on average, Onana has conceded a goal every 64 minutes.

The Nkol Ngok-born footballer's future at United still remains uncertain as the Red Devils continue to look at options in the transfer market. Additionally, newly promoted Saudi Pro League side Neom SC are said to be interested in signing the Cameroon international this summer, as per The Mirror, and are ready to offer £35 million ($47.4m) to United.
