Revealed: Emi Martinez’s rousing message before more penalty shootout heroics & celebratory dancing for Argentina in dramatic Copa America quarter-final clash with Ecuador
Martinez delivered again in the quarter-finals of the 2024 Copa, as he saved two efforts and helped Argentina to a 4-2 win on penalties. The 31-year-old said afterwards of the rousing speech that he gave before a ball was kicked: “I told the boys that I wasn't ready to go home. Even though we are world and American champions, we deserved to continue. We have been locked up with all the people for 35 days and it is exciting.”
THE BIGGER PICTURE
Martinez, who broke out more celebratory dance moves when beating away Ecuadorian spot-kicks, added to TyC Sports on another emotional outing for his country: “I dive 500 times a day in training, I always stay in good shape. The people who spend their money to come see us deserve it. I lost my voice in the emotion of shouting. I want to continue growing as a goalkeeper and as a person.”
