Renato Veiga is a Blue! Chelsea announce signing of €14m midfielder from FC Basel on SEVEN-YEAR deal as Enzo Maresca completes fifth deal of the summer

Chelsea have announced the signing of Veiga on an extraordinary seven-year deal. The 20-year-old has committed his future to the Blues, and they also hold the option to extend his contract by a further year. Per Fabrizio Romano, they have paid €14m for the star.

Veiga is a Portugal Under-21 international and he plays primarily as a defensive midfielder. During his time at Basel, he played 26 times, scoring twice, having come through the ranks at Sporting CP. He also spent 2023 on loan at Augsburg in the Bundesliga.

Veiga told Chelsea's official website: "I’m absolutely buzzing to be here. This is one of the biggest clubs in England – the biggest for me – and I’m just really excited to get started."

Chelsea kick off their pre-season friendlies against Wrexham on July 25. Veiga will hope to make a significant impression in the preparatory fixtures - it's clear he has the skills to make an immediate impact.
