WHAT HAPPENED?
Madrid's 2023-24 double winner and captain Fernandez is on his way out of the club as a free agent this summer and is set to join newly-promoted Saudi Pro League side Al-Qadsiah. According to COPE, veteran midfielder Luka Modric has been chosen as his successor with Dani Carvajal and Lucas Vazquez set to pick up the vice-captaincy roles.

Los Blancos have a lot of experience in their squad, but are losing two key players in Fernandez and the retiring Toni Kroos. By handing the armband to Modric, Madrid are ensuring they still have a winner and leader at the helm as they prepare to go again in 2024-25.
