  • WHAT HAPPENED?

Rangnick was parachuted into the Old Trafford dugout as an interim manager in the 2021-22 season after the sacking of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. During his time in charge, he claimed that United required "open-heart surgery", as they attempted to rebuild. The comments were made in the wake of a 4-0 thumping against Liverpool; they face the Reds again this weekend amidst a horror run that has seen them win just one of their last five games.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

United are amazingly considering the prospect of relegation, with head coach Ruben Amorim accepting that the unthinkable has become possible. Now, Ferdinand has accepted Rangnick was right from the outset, and believes his warnings have gone unheeded by the club's ownership.

  • WHAT FERDINAND SAID

Speaking on Rio Ferdinand Presents, he said: "Ralf Rangnick said this needs open heart surgery, not a quick fix. He weren't wrong!

"How true are those words ringing now? He was vilified and ridiculed when he said those words. He was so right. And I think Amorim would sit there behind closed doors and would be thinking the same thing."
