City see Amorim as a coach capable of building on Guardiola's legacy, according to i, and the Portuguese coach is said to be extremely interested in taking on the challenge. Amorim was previously linked to Liverpool after Jurgen Klopp announced his departure last season.

City recently confirmed that director Txiki Begiristain will soon be replaced by Hugo Viana, who leaves his role as Sporting CP's director of football to join the English side. Viana and Amorim have worked together in Lisbon for four years.

Amorim has guided Sporting to two Primeira Liga titles as coach and is out to secure another crown before his possible departure for a new adventure.
