Pep Guardiola and Cristina Serra begin divorce proceedings with Man City boss set to use same lawyer as estranged wife to finalise split

Despite the split, both parties have opted for a smooth and amicable resolution, choosing to share the same legal representation to handle their divorce proceedings. Their approach aims to prevent a contentious legal battle while ensuring that their long-standing relationship remains respectful.

The pair had already announced their decision to split in Janaury after spending 30 years in a marital relationship. Sources close to the couple suggest that they have already outlined the key terms of their financial settlement, which could be finalised in a matter of weeks.

Spanish journalist Lorena Vazquez shared the details during an interview with Y Ahora Sonsoles: "They want it above all to be friendly for the sake of their children. As you can imagine money is not going to be an issue and they have already agreed to the initial terms to make sure this separation is the most cordial possible. They have a very good relationship, so much so that the same lawyer is arranging the whole thing. The divorce is on the way and is being left in the hands of people with their absolute trust."

Reports suggest that Guardiola’s decision to extend his contract at Manchester City until 2027 played a role in the couple’s separation. However, since signing the contract extension, the reigning Premier League champions have struggled for form, enduring their worst run under Guardiola’s leadership. Their latest setback came on Sunday when they suffered a 2-0 home defeat to Arne Slot’s Liverpool, leaving them 20 points adrift of the league leaders.

With their title defence in serious jeopardy, Guardiola’s focus now shifts to Manchester City’s upcoming clash against Tottenham in north London on Wednesday.
