Barcelona’s full-back is not finding space and in January will end up on the market

Alejandro Balde will be one of the main names to watch in the upcoming winter transfer window. The Barcelona full-back has slipped to the fringes of Hansi Flick's plans and at the start of this season has not been getting game time, not even off the bench in the German manager's rotations.


As January draws closer, clubs are lining up for him and according to Fichajes in Spain, AC Milan have joined Juventus in making moves in recent hours.


  • Third choice for Flick

    As things stand, Balde has made only one appearance this season, and that lasted just 12 minutes, coming on with the game already won in the 7-2 Liga victory over Racing Santander.

    Under Hansi Flick, the 2003-born player is currently third choice at left-back behind the undisputed first-choice Joao Cancelo and fellow academy product Xavi Espart, who has been shifted to the left despite being naturally right-footed, like the former Inter and Juve Portuguese player.

    During a long summer in which plenty of courtships came to nothing, and with the full-back himself pushing to make his case at the club where he grew up, Balde was also offered to Inter in possible talks, which quickly collapsed, first over Alessandro Bastoni and then over Lautaro Martinez.


    Inter refused to entertain swap deals and, in the end, the full-back stayed at Barcelona. His future is also shaped by a contractual issue that sees his deal expire on 30 June 2028. That relatively near deadline makes the next two transfer windows the last chance to generate a capital gain from his sale.

    Baldé wants more minutes and, with little chance of getting them at Barcelona, will look for a move. Juventus have added him to their shortlist for the flank and are weighing up a deal to give Luciano Spalletti the left-back he asked for in the summer, but never got in Turin.

    AC Milan are in the mix too. Ruben Amorim has made the same request to Gerry Cardinale and, according to Fichajes, Milan have started tracking Baldé as they assess whether a deal could be possible in January.
