North London transfer battle! Arsenal launch bid to hijack rivals Tottenham's move for Crystal Palace talisman Eberechi Eze

Fabrizio Romano has reported that Arsenal contacted Crystal Palace star Eze's camp over the weekend as they attempt to make their move for one of Spurs' top targets. The Gunners have been informed of the potential conditions of a deal, with Spurs still keen according to Romano.

It has been reported for several months that Eze, who turned 27 on Sunday, has a release clause of £68m which is likely to be demanded by Palace to any potential suitors. Spurs have long been cited as having an interest in the England international, along with Manchester United, Aston Villa, and more. Mikel Arteta's Arsenal are the latest to join the race and are moving quickly as they aim to secure one of the most sought-after players in the Premier League.

Eze signed for the Eagles in August 2020 for around £17m after breaking through at QPR in the Championship. A 20% sell-on clause was inserted into the deal, meaning QPR could receive a windfall of over £10m if a big-money transfer for Eze is to go through.

Eze is expected to leave this summer, as he aims to challenge himself at the highest level in the prime years of his career. A move could go through regardless of whether Palace are admitted into the Europa League, but rejection from the competition could seal Eze's fate.
