Even without Lionel Messi, Inter Miami were the more clinical side in the first half Sunday night - and happy to hit on the break. Venezuelan youngster Segovia opened the scoring after six minutes. Tadeo Allende made it two after 37, running onto Luis Suarez's pass before battering the ball into the top corner.

Segovia put it beyond doubt shortly before half time, a delicate poke past a sprawling goalkeeper to make it 3-0. Suarez got one of his own in the second half, dispatching a Houston side that looked thoroughly outclassed on the evening. Nicolas Lodeiro's late goal was little more than a consolation amidst a miserable evening.

  • DID YOU KNOW?

Messi missed Sunday's contest due to a decision to provide him rest in a congested schedule. The Argentine has played in all three Miami games thus far this season, and grabbed two assists in the season opener.

    THE MVP

Who else but Suarez? There were good things from numerous players. Segovia bagged a brace, and might have had a hat-trick. Tallende took his goal wonderfully. Sergio Busquets was as calm as ever at the base of midfield. But Suarez strolled through the contest with knees that seemingly shouldn't work, and finished it with a goal and three assists. Turns out Miami have another guy they can play through every now and then.

  • THE BIG LOSER

It has been a miserable start to the season for Ben Olsen. The Dynamo manager has overseen back-to-back poor performances, and finds his side 14th in the Eastern Conference. There is scope for improvement - these are the early days of the season. But there wasn't exactly immense support for him last year as the Dynamo were bounced from the playoffs in the first round. This isn't a great start to redemption.

  • WHAT COMES NEXT?

Miami's campaign continues with a CONCACAF Champions Cup clash against Jamaican side Cavalier on Thursday. After that, they will host in-form Charlotte in their third MLS match of the season.
