Ozil confirmed that he and Sane spoke before the transfer, but insisted it was merely a friendly discussion about life in Turkey, not an attempt to influence the winger's decision. Speaking to local media, he shared his reaction to the move and addressed the rumours: “Big names are coming to Turkey. They are playing football here. Hopefully, our big clubs will also be successful in Europe.”
Ozil expressed his happiness at seeing Sane arrive in the Super Lig, pointing out their shared roots: “I am very happy that Sane has come to Turkey. He is someone who, like me, has come from the Schalke youth academy.”
Responding directly to claims that he advised Sane to choose Galatasaray, former Madrid star was clear: “We talked before I came to Turkey, but it's not like I directed him to Galatasaray as written in the media... He asked about life in Turkey and Istanbul, we talked about these things. I said it was a very beautiful city and a safe city.”
He added: "I said we have incredible food. I said we would be very happy if you came, and he came. We wish him success, too."
