‘I would behave the same’ - Mauricio Pochettino surprisingly backs Chelsea fans who chanted for his sacking at Brentford as pressure builds on Blues boss

The Blues put in yet another underwhelming performance at the Gtech Community Stadium. Despite Axel Disasi securing a point for them late on, Chelsea supporters were not happy with the performance and expressed their dissatisfaction by jeering the players and calling for Pochettino to be fired. In a surprising turn, the Argentine seemed to agree with the criticisms from the fans.

Speaking with the media, Pochettino said: "It is nothing to complain about, nothing to say, we understand the situation. We need to accept the criticism. We need to try to improve the way we play and the result and try to change this feeling. Hope on Monday the fans will be right behind us and helping the team to win the game. But we need to accept that is football. Maybe if I was a fan, I would behave the same as them because it's Chelsea, and we are not matching the expectations."

The Blues had a respectable run in early February, winning against Aston Villa and drawing with Manchester City, despite their season-long inconsistency. Nevertheless, a disheartening loss to Liverpool in the Carabao Cup final broke their run of form and the west London side are now ranked 11th in the table, four points behind Newcastle United in eighth place.

Pochettino's job safety has been dangling by a thread for the last few months and it has been reported that the Blues brass have narrowed their list down to two names: Ruben Amorim and Roberto De Zerbi. Nonetheless, the former Spurs manager will have the rest of the season to save his job starting with their clash against Newcastle United on Monday, March 11.
