Marseille 'proud' to have Mason Greenwood as club president hails ex-Man Utd forward for making 'enormous impact' at Ligue 1 club

Greenwood joined the French side in a deal worth a reported €30 million (£25m/$34m) following his impressive displays on loan at Getafe last season. Marseille fans protested after news of their interest first emerged, with the forward having been subject to charges of attempted rape, assault and coercive and controlling behaviour, prior to them being dropped in February 2023.

Despite the controversy, the 22-year-old has enjoyed a great start in French football, scoring twice on his debut. He now has five goals from as many matches in Ligue 1 and his team's president says they are "proud" to have him.

"For us, he is a player who makes the difference on a technical level. His performance has been excellent since he arrived in Marseille," Longoria told Relevo. "He has adapted very well and the result of this is the impact he has had in the first three games of the championship for us, which has been massive."

He added: "His arrival was a very quick matter when we discussed it with the coach. He already knew him and everything happened very quickly, although obviously there was some debate. We believed a lot in his talent and we are very happy with what he is doing with us now. His performance has been fantastic and we are very proud to have him with us in Marseille. We had all the information we needed and I think we were able to make the right decision."

Marseille are level on points with Paris Saint-Germain and Monaco at the top of Ligue 1. They will hope to maintain their unbeaten start when they face Strasbourg on Sunday.
