Man Utd tell staff they've been fired HOURS after losing Europa League final to Tottenham with club morale low and 'popular' colleagues to lose jobs

There are more financial concerns ahead for Manchester United after they failed to secure lucrative qualification to the Champions League, losing Wednesday's Europa League final to Tottenham.

United's minority takeover by Sir Jim Ratcliffe's INEOS has not been very beneficial for the club's non-footballing side, as the new management have undertaken hundreds of jobs since last season, as part of cost-cutting measures. It had been reported earlier by Red Devils CEO Omar Berrada that the second round of redundancies had been processed with the goal in mind that the club would achieve at least Europa League qualification for the next five seasons. They will not play in European competition at all next term.

On Thursday, The Athletic reported that United had hosted a Europa League screening party for employees, an event where Ratcliffe and co-owner Avram Glazer were booed. They added that there was a 'very sombre' mood after Ruben Amorim's side lost to Tottenham, and the Daily Mail now report that top management didn't take a lot of time before announcing more job cuts.

It has been reported that over 200 employees were told that they were set to be laid off by the club, with the revelation made just hours after the team's defeat to Spurs. The report also hinted that United's future could be significantly impacted by the loss. The club's share price fell by £160 million ($215.7m) in the immediate aftermath of the final, and United will also lose out on a windfall of over £100 million ($134.8m) as a result of their failure to qualify for the Champions League.

It is still uncertain whether INEOS plan to cut even further jobs this summer as the Red Devils look to improve their dwindling finances.
