    Atalanta have confirmed that the 54-year-old has become their new Director of Global Development - just over a year on from leaving United following Sir Jim Ratcliffe's partial takeover. He becomes the second person to leave the Red Devils for Italy after Scott McTominay's move to Napoli last summer.

    WHAT ATALANTA SAID

    A club statement reads: "Atalanta BC announces a new entry at management level in the Club's Sports Area, which Mr. John Murtough joins with immediate effect as Director of Global Development. The 54-year-old English manager, who will be coordinated by Sporting Director Tony D'Amico, will strengthen an area that aims to further develop its international vision.

    "The Percassi family, the Pagliuca family, and the entire Nerazzurri Club welcome John Murtough, wishing him good luck in his work in the Atalanta BC Sports Area."

  • THE BIGGER PICTURE

    Murtough brings with him a wealth of experience, having worked at United, Everton, Fulham, Coventry City, and the Premier League. It will be interesting to see how he gets on at the Serie A team, during a time when his old club is having a dire season.
