Manchester City's kit has evolved so much over the last 30 years. In the 1990s, the sky blue shirt was mostly a symbol of local pride, seen predominantly in and around Greater Manchester. City won their second Premier League title by successfully chasing down Liverpool after they had lost 3-2 at Anfield in a game that had been billed as a title decider. Steven Gerrard famously told his team-mates after that game that "this does not slip", and City fans revelled in catching their rivals up after the Reds' captain slipped on the turf against Chelsea, gifting a goal to Demba Ba in a 2-0 win for the Blues at Anfield.City, meanwhile, went on a five-game winning streak and sealed the title with a comfortable 2-0 victory over West Ham at home. After winning their first league crown in 44 years in 2012, it was vital that City repeated that success and did not go down as a flash in the pan.That is why this shirt, in which the team also lifted the League Cup, is still cherished by supporters.

2013-14: Chasing down Liverpool

This kit celebrated the 10-year anniversary of City's first Premier League title-winning season, with a nod to its thrilling finale. The numbers 93:20 were printed on the inside to mark when Sergio Aguero scored the decisive goal against Queen Park Rangers in 2012.But this season ended up being just as dramatic, as City fell two goals down to Aston Villa on the final day of the season before Rodri and Ilkay Gundogan rescued the title by scoring three times between them in the space of five minutes, turning the Etihad Stadium from a funeral atmosphere into a carnival.

2021-22: Gundogan emulates Aguero

Kompany's 11th and final season with City was his most special, as he led the team to a clean sweep of domestic trophies. And the Belgian played a decisive role in winning the Premier League title, too, scoring a thunderous long-range strike in the penultimate game against Leicester City after a nerve-shredding night when any dropped points would have practically handed the title to Liverpool.Kompany lifted the league, FA Cup and Carabao Cup trophies wearing this home strip, even though City were wearing their away kit when they clinched the title at Brighton. The shirt itself strayed from tradition, featuring a navy zig zag design on the sleeves, and the button was a nice touch.

2018-19: Kompany says goodbye

After 80 years at their beloved Maine Road, City upped sticks from Moss Side in south Manchester to Eastlands to move into the City of Manchester Stadium, which had hosted the Commonwealth Games the year before.They now had a far bigger ground, with room for 48,000 fans, with huge growth prospects. And they had new kit manufacturers, swapping Le Coq Sportif for Reebok. The design went back to the club's roots, an all blue shirt with a white collar.Their first season at their new stadium was not easy, and they finished 16th, winning just five home matches. But in the first derby at the ground, they thrashed United 4-1. What better way to christen your new home?

2003-04: A new era in Eastlands

City made the signing of the summer by landing Erling Haaland in 2022, and for only £51 million at that, and the Norwegian quickly set about destroying every goal record that ever existed. The striker, whose father Alfie had played for City, had been pictured in City shirts as a child and the sky blue suited him perfectly.The shirt entered new territory with burgundy trims on the sleeves and collars, but also has an old school feel to it with the badge placed in the middle. Haaland's record-smashing exploits have given the shirt its own place in history already, and this season could go down as the club's best ever if they do go on to win the treble.

2022-23: Insatiable Haaland and treble dreams

This shirt does not exactly hold happy memories for City, as they were relegated from the Premier League in its first season and then finished way off the play-off places in Division 1 in the second. And their neighbours United won the title both seasons, rubbing salt into their wounds.But it was a lovely design, sporting a white and sky blue striped collar. The club's badge was woven into background, along with big letters reading 'CITY'. The team did not play well in it, but the players sure looked good.And one player in particular caught the eye. This was Georgi Kinkladze's first season with the club and the fans fell in love with the Georgian winger in an instant. His graceful dribbles lit up an otherwise dark era, and he was so popular that years later, supporters paid for adverts on the screen at Maine Road to urge the club to keep him. He alone gives this shirt an important place in their hearts.

1995-97: Kinkladze lights up a dark era

City had an underwhelming first year under Guardiola and, for the only time in his career, the coach ended the season without a trophy. 'Fraudiola' jokes from rival fans were endless. But everything came together in his second campaign.The Cityzens became the first and only team to earn 100 points in a Premier League season, finishing a gigantic 19 points ahead of second-placed United. As Guardiola put it recently, they "treated every game like a final". And they played some utterly scintillating football, including hammering Liverpool 5-0, Stoke 7-2 and Leicester 5-1 on their way to 106 goals.The home kit from this enthralling, record-breaking season was a simple yet beautiful design. A pure, all blue shirt apart from trim white lines around the collar. A fitting outfit for an utterly dominant season.

2017-18: The Centurions

You never forget the first time. As Manchester United fans kept reminding them with a ticker at Old Trafford, City had waited 35 years to lift a trophy when they faced Stoke City in the 2011 FA Cup final. It was far from a comfortable afternoon, but a second-half goal from Yaya Toure finally delivered some silverware.And for fans who had stuck with the team through mostly bad times, including being relegated all the way to the third tier of English football, it was an unforgettable moment. That is why this shirt is so cherished, 12 years on.City had also beaten United in the semi-final at Wembley, thanks to another goal by Toure. And they had a superb league campaign, finishing third and qualifying for the Champions League for the first time, enjoying the explosion of David Silva as well as Toure in their first seasons with the club.

2010-11: First trophy in 35 years

This kit will always have special memories for City fans as it was the last they wore at their beloved former ground, Maine Road. Their first season wearing it was in the Championship but City, managed by an expert at winning promotion in Kevin Keegan, instantly returned to the top flight, romping to the title with 99 points.And unlike the last time they had come up, they had no problems staying there, finishing a respectable ninth in the Premier League while beating the likes of Liverpool, Newcastle and Tottenham. But there is no question about the best moment that came while wearing this shirt.That was beating United 3-1 in the last-ever Manchester derby at Maine Road with the help of a Gary Neville backpass into the path of Shaun Goater. The terrace chant "Feed the Goat and he will score" had never been sung with so much gusto. And to this day, Neville has to put up with City fans stopping him in the street and thanking him for gifting the Bermudan striker the goal.

2001-03: Promotion & Maine Road's farewell

One word. Agueroooooooo. The Argentine's 94th-minute strike against QPR to clinch City's first Premier League title, followed by him celebrating by ripping his shirt off and waving it in the air, gave this kit instant immortality.It was a mighty fine kit too, a sky blue shirt with the white trim, with blue shorts and blue and white striped socks. The perfect design to be seen around the world and go down in English football folklore. A collectors' item, you could say.As well as the best moment of the club's history, this kit was worn for the 6-1 derby demolition of Manchester United at Old Trafford, Vincent Kompany's header against United and Mario Balotelli's injury-time penalty against Tottenham.
