Liverpool told which team to 'watch' out for in title race as Gary Neville admits Reds are 'clear favourites' to win Premier League

Arne Slot’s team came through a thrilling 6-3 victory away at Tottenham to ensure that they will sit four points clear at the summit on Christmas Day. Chelsea are their closest challengers, but dropped points in a 0-0 draw at Everton and have played a game more than other domestic rivals from Merseyside.

Arsenal are also in the hunt, following an impressive 5-1 win at Crystal Palace, but a run of one win in 12 across all competitions has seen defending champions Manchester City slip 12 points off the pace – with Pep Guardiola’s side now languishing in seventh.

Manchester United legend Neville, who won eight titles in his playing days, has told his podcast for Sky Sports of the battle for supremacy in the English top-flight: “Liverpool are clearly the best team in the Premier League at this moment in time. They’re the clear favourites for the title. Man City’s drop-off has been spectacular, I’m not sure anyone really knows how it’s gone so badly wrong. Chelsea had a tough game [at Everton] but they’re doing well and having a good season.

“I think the one team Liverpool need to watch are Arsenal if they can get their tail up and close that gap going in March and April. But at this moment in time Liverpool are clear favourites. I think the biggest risk for them is injuries – if they were to lose [Virgil] van Dijk and [Mohamed] Salah that would hurt them. Van Dijk is like Rodri for Liverpool, he holds it all together. Keeping him fit is absolutely crucial.

“There’s some big challenges coming up so we’re nowhere near the point that you can hand Liverpool the title but they’re in a great position and at this moment in time they’re by far the best team in the league and the table tells us that.”

Liverpool – who are also through to the Carabao Cup semi-finals, making positive progress in the Champions League and will begin their FA Cup campaign in January – will be back in action on Boxing Day when playing host to struggling Leicester.
