    WHAT HAPPENED?

The 2024/25 Premier Soccer League season is scheduled to start in the second week of August.

Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates have been tipped to go neck-to-neck owing to the qualities within their squad.

Kaizer Chiefs are tipped to do well but not to the extent of challenging for the title. Their former winger Junior Khanye has now predicted who might go all the way to winning the crown.

    WHAT KHANYE SAID

"Sundowns players know what to do without being coached. The team did not break. The team is still the same. I mean the likes of [Teboho] Mokoena, Mshishi [Themba Zwane], [Marcelo] Allende, [Lucas] Ribeiro, [Ronwen] Williams, and [Grant] Kekana are still there," he told iDiski Times.

"The spine is still there so how do you break those players? The players I have mentioned are national players so it’s still going to take some time before they are challenged.

"Orlando Pirates are going to be number three because one, they lost Bra Stan, a very influential person. This coach [Jose Riveiro] is not consistent by himself... The coach makes wrong decisions where certain players are concerned and he no longer has guidance from Bra Stan. Even with signings, Bra Stan had an influence," Khanye continued.

"Cape Town City have signed a couple of players that I think will be good. I hope that South Africa doesn’t retire Kamohelo [Mokotjo]. I saw him at Sekhukhune [United] the guy is still good and one of the best passers and experienced."

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Sundowns are currently under the leadership of Manqoba Mngqithi and Steve Komphela after the exit of Rhulani Mokwena who joined Wydad Athletic Club. They have made some interesting signings to help the team compete.

Bucs have not been that busy in the transfer market owing to the quality they have, but they still added experience in attack by including Angola international Gilberto.

Having finished second in two consecutive seasons, the Sea Robbers will be aiming at going a step further.

    WHAT NEXT?

The MTN8 starts this weekend with the defending champions Orlando Pirates playing SuperSport United, a game that might give a clear picture of what to anticipate.

Masandawana finished their pre-season on a high note which might be an indication the players have moved on after Mokwena's exit.
