He does not start especially well: he miscontrols the ball and loses it, helped by a team-mate's inadvertent dummy, then persists with a second dribble after the first had already taken him clear and puts the ball into the middle, but by then his team-mates had gone too far forward. Then he makes amends with a wonderful goal: from a Yildiz assist, the Kosovan breaks the deadlock with a curling left-footed effort that nestles in at the far post. The goal lifts him and, as the match goes on, he produces plays that finally combine technical quality with effectiveness.
He catches the eye in the first half with sharp movement and a couple of efforts, one of which Sanchez saves well.
He is Juventus' liveliest player in the first part of the match, constantly making himself available and showing quality down the right flank, while also covering his area well defensively.

He is struggling more than his team-mates to get up to match speed, and is often slow to react to his team-mates' cues, as with a touch from Miretti in the first half. He has a go from distance, and the shot flashes just wide, but it is not enough.
The Brazilian is putting the work in and has made it clear he wants to stay at Continassa, but right now his performances are not at the level Spalletti demands: the tempo is sluggish, and the forward passes are almost non-existent.
He was only on the pitch for a few minutes, and Spalletti explained why after the match: "David was supposed to play around half an hour. In the end I preferred to throw him straight into the thick of the game rather than wait until the end. Then, if in the final quarter of an hour there is a risk of making him play too many minutes, you take him off again. These are normal situations at this stage of the season and they can be managed one way or the other." The Canadian's brief cameo won't live long in the memory: he looked off the pace, and when he finally broke free and had a sight of goal, he chose to square it instead. Spalletti did not like it.
