Juventus finally confirm their new head coach! Ex-PSG & Inter star Thiago Motta replaces Max Allegri after impressive Serie A campaign with Bologna

Motta joins the Turin giants after a stellar season with Serie A rivals Bologna, where he remarkably secured Champions League qualification for the first time since the 1964-65 season. His inaugural season saw Bologna finish ninth in Serie A and he followed it up with a fifth-place finish, their highest since 1981, thus ensuring their return to the Champions League after decades.

The decision to part ways with Allegri came shortly after Juventus clinched the Coppa Italia. Despite the triumph, Allegri’s second spell at Juventus was marred by inconsistent performances and off-field controversies. He was sent off for his reactions against Atalanta during the title decider after he tore off his tie and jacket while fuming against a refereeing decision - a behaviour "that the club deemed incompatible with the values of Juventus."

Motta told Juventus' website: “I am really happy to begin a new chapter at the helm of a great club like Juventus. I thank the owners and the management, who can be sure of my ambition to keep the Juventus flag flying high and to please the fans”.

Allegri’s initial tenure at Juventus was highly successful, securing five consecutive Serie A titles from 2014 to 2019 and reaching the Champions League finals in 2015 and 2017. However, his return in 2021 did not replicate the same level of success, with the Coppa Italia being the only silverware during his second stint.

Juventus, a club synonymous with success and high standards, is looking to rejuvenate its fortunes under Motta’s guidance. The new manager brings a fresh perspective and a proven track record of instilling a cohesive and dynamic playing style.
