'Mister, stop crying' - Jose Mourinho posts emotional tribute to ex-Porto captain Jorge Costa following shock death at 53

    Mourinho managed Costa at Porto for two years, where the duo together won five trophies, including two Liga Portugal and a Champions League title. As the 53-year-old suddenly passed away from cardiac arrest, the current Fenerbahce boss took to social media to mourn his former player's death.

  • WHAT MOURINHO SAID

    Taking to Instagram, Mourinho shared a photograph of himself with Costa during their Porto days and wrote in the caption: "I know what you would say now if you could "mister stop crying, tomorrow you have a match and your boys need you ready and strong”. I promise you BICHO, I am going to do it. RIP because your legacy stay with us."

    A Porto youth product, Costa spent 15 years at the club and made 383 appearances for them across all competitions. Later in his managerial career, Costa coached in multiple countries, including Portugal, Cyprus and India. He even took charge of the Gabon national team for two years as their head coach.

    With a heavy heart, Mourinho will be on the sidelines for Fenerbahce's first competitive match of the 2025-26 campaign as they take on Feyenoord in the first leg of their Champions League qualifying third round on Wednesday.
