Joao Pedro performs controversial throat-cutting celebration after scoring Brighton's fourth goal in win over Crystal Palace

Joao Pedro scored the fourth goal in Brighton's comfortable 4-1 win over rivals Palace. The Brazilian, who joined the club from Watford in a £30 million ($38m) deal, netted with six minutes left, putting the seal on an impressive victory. He subsequently mimed slitting his throat after counting to four, potentially in a bid to show the game had been killed off.

Brighton remained in control for the duration of the 90 minutes, and were 3-0 up at half-time thanks to goals from Lewis Dunk, Jack Hinshelwood and Facundo Buonanotte. Jean-Philippe Mateta pulled one back for Palace with 20 minutes remaining but Pedro quickly scotched any hope of a comeback.

Pedro has scored eight Premier League goals this season and has also laid on two assists. Brighton's win over Palace was their first in four games, as they climbed to seventh in the table.

The Seagulls face Tottenham on Saturday at the AMEX Stadium. A win in that game could move them into top-six contention.
