Jamie Carragher tells Liverpool to 'accept' Mohamed Salah will leave the club after Egypt star left 'disappointed' over lack of contract offer

The Egyptian shocked the footballing world when he said Liverpool hadn't offered him a contract extension, despite his deal expiring next summer. The 32-year-old admitted he was "disappointed" at the situation and that he was "more out than in" of the club. Now, Reds legend Carragher has had his say on the matter.

When asked if Liverpool could afford to lose Salah, he told Sky Sports: "It doesn't look like it right now, but at some stage in the very near future, Liverpool are going to be playing games without Mo Salah. Everybody is desperate for him to play for the next couple of seasons. He might want more - that might be the problem with the club. But right now people will say you can't afford to lose him and all of the supporters will be saying exactly the same. They said that when Kevin Keegan left, Kenny Dalglish left, Ian Rush, Michael Owen, Robbie Fowler, Luis Suarez and Fernando Torres - all of these great players of the past. Liverpool will miss Mo Salah whenever he leaves, whether that's at the end of the season or in a couple of years' time. But that's going to happen in the future and we all have to accept that."

Salah has proven to be one of the best signings in Premier League history since joining from Roma in 2017. The former Chelsea man has scored 221 goals in 366 appearances for the Merseyside outfit and he is still proving to be one of the best players in the division. If they don't retain his services, Arne Slot's team could rue that decision going forward.

Whether Salah's remarks will jolt Liverpool into action remains to be seen. Meanwhile, the Reds host Real Madrid in the Champions League on Wednesday night at Anfield.
