Jack Grealish joined the wrong club! Rio Ferdinand & Ryan Giggs claim £100m Man City star 'was a Man Utd player'

Back in the summer of 2021, England international Grealish became the most expensive player in British football when completing a record-breaking transfer from Aston Villa to the Etihad Stadium.

He has become a Premier League and Champions League title winner with City, but has registered just 17 goals and 23 assists across 155 appearances. Amid questions of his contribution, Grealish has slipped out of Pep Guardiola’s starting XI.

Ryan Giggs has suggested that Grealish should have headed to Old Trafford when making a big career call, telling the Rio Ferdinand Presents podcast of creative influences that appeared tailor-made for the Red Devils: "You know, [Angel] Di Maria was a United player, I felt. But at the time, we played with a diamond, so he played left of a diamond. Or we played three at the back with two up front, and he played No.10.

"So we never really played his position, where we sort of scouted him off the right from Madrid, or now and again off the left. He never really played that position. But he was a United player."

Giggs added: "It’s like Grealish. Grealish was a United player." Ex-Red Devils defender Ferdinand agreed, saying of a playmaker that has never lacked confidence: "Yeah, 100 per cent. He’s got the… [he just] wants it, innit?"

Grealish is generating more transfer talk in 2025, with it suggested that he could be on the move in the next window as Guardiola seeks to freshen up his ranks. The 29-year-old still has two years left to run on his contract at City.
