INEOS are selling up! New Man Utd co-owners place sister club Nice on the market amid fears over UEFA's multi-club ownership rules

INEOS's stake in both United and Nice has caused a conundrum due to both teams qualifying for next season's Europa League as UEFA's rules prevent teams who share an owner from featuring in the same competition.

Due in part to the complications regarding UEFA's rules, INEOS are prepared to sell the French club, The Independentreports. However, the decision is also motivated by Sir Jim Ratcliffe's desire to focus on United since taking on a minor stake earlier this year.

United and Nice are unsure on how UEFA will handle their case for the Europa League next season. It is expected that the governing body will go down the same route it did last season regarding AC Milan and Toulouse, who also share an owner. The clubs were prevented from transferring players between each other, nor were they allowed to use the same scouting and player databases, among other restrictions.

INEOS hope to rid themselves of the common ownership headache by selling their stake in Nice. However, French football's precarious financial situation may hinder their search for a buyer in the coming months.
