Rashford had been heavily linked with an exit from United after the 27-year-old was cast out of the Red Devils' first-team squad by Ruben Amorim, due to an alleged lack of commitment towards training and improving as a player. The England international has now joined Aston Villa on a six-month loan and while the move does not have an obligation to buy, it is expected that his 20-year association with United may have reached its conclusion. Fans have reacted to the news with disdain towards co-owners INEOS and their handling of the situation, as well as criticisms of the player.
Manchester United fan @UtdEIIiS said: "So we loaned out Rashford and Antony didn’t replace them with forwards and brought in 2 random teenagers. INEOS are a joke."
X user @UmirF1 added: "Getting rid of Rashford and McTominay in one season and in arguably your worst season of the modern era, must feel so rubbish. I know some United fans have their grievances about those two players’ performances but their stories embody what it means to be United. Feels like a loss of principles and a lack of United’s essence this season. Feels like any other club."
@YanitedCynical continued: "Don’t think you’re a real United fan if you’re excited about Rashford leaving tbh. He’s exactly what this club is about. Academy lad with 150+ goals and six trophies. Been through all the tough and high moments with us."
Fan @AnnemarieDray said on X: "That communication from Manchester United about Marcus Rashford loan is the most sterile, unfeeling thing I’ve ever read. You’d see warmer messages in the Antarctica. Regardless of opinion a player who’s given 20 years of his life to a club deserves more than that. In my opinion."
However, some fans also showcased their displeasure towards Rashford as @AndyMk_83 said: "Bit weird that Rashford would rather go rent a gaff in Birmingham than run around a bit in training for the club he loves so much.
AFPRashford joined United's first team in 2016 having spent two seasons in the Red Devils' youth system. The winger scored twice on his debut against Danish club Midtjylland and soon became a fan favourite at Old Trafford amid the side's faltering fortunes. After a scintillating 2022-23 season, Rashford's form has dropped leading to the feud with Amorim this season and his eventual departure to Aston Villa, which has left fans emotional.
The attacker could make his debut for Aston Villa on Sunday, February 9, when Emery's side take on Tottenham in the FA Cup fourth round. However, Rashford's appearance will likely hinge on his fitness levels as he has not played since December 12.
