  • WHAT HAPPENED?

The Argentine found the breakthrough in a cagey and often uninspiring match at Craven Cottage when he let fly from outside the box and saw the ball loop off Fulham's Sasa Lukic and into the net in the 78th minute. And he was happy to acknowledge that fortune had paid its part in the goal with United earning just their third away win of the season in the Premier League.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Martinez was speaking alongside United youngster Toby Collyer, who made a goal-saving clearance on the line in the second half when he headed away Joachim Andersen's effort to preserve the visitors' lead. And he paid tribute to the 21-year-old. Martinez said: "I am so happy because of this guy. This guy is a big example for the young generation. He is working so hard every day and he is so humble. It means a lot. Not only to the fans, but for us because we have suffered a lot. It is a hard win, in this club the pressure is hard, but we are here. We know how difficult it is. Even a game like today we have to win and be humble after winning."

  • DID YOU KNOW?

Martinez's deflected strike was the first and only shot on target that United had throughout the 90 minutes. But it was enough to give them their eighth consecutive victory at Craven Cottage. Their last defeat there was in the 2008-09 season.
