Hirving 'Chucky' Lozano in talks with 2025 MLS expansion side San Diego FC over marquee transfer as PSV slap hefty price tag on Mexico star

The Athletic reports that the Dutch club have quoted SDFC $12m for the Mexico international, who could leave the club after just one season in Eindhoven in his second stint at the club.

If the deal gets over the line, Lozano would be their first-ever Designated Player.

The report adds that the expansion side hope to have the deal over the line by the start of 2024 Copa America, where Lozano will play for Mexico.

The El Tri star has 70 caps with his national team, and is viewed by the fanbase as their superstar player over the past decade. The 29-year-old began his European dream with PSV in 2017, eventually moving to Napoli in 2019 where he carved up Serie A for four years before ending back at PSV in the summer of 2023.

The signing of Lozano would be one of the biggest in MLS history from a culture and fanbase perspective, while also being one of the largest-ever transfer fees.

San Diego has already signed three players ahead of the 2025 season in goalkeeper Duran Ferree and Danish veterans Jeppe Tverskov and Marcus Ingvartsen.

The club starts play in 2025, but they will now hope to get the Lozano deal over the line prior to this summer's Copa America. The Mexico star, meanwhile, will wrap up the campaign with PSV in the coming weeks - where they've nearly clinched the Eredivisie title.
