A new coach for Harry Kane?! Thomas Tuchel facing the sack ahead of summer exit if Bayern Munich fail to make Champions League progress

According to Sky Germany, Tuchel may be shown the exit door if Bayern crash out of the Champions League and are thus heading towards a rare trophy-less season. It had already been announced he was leaving Bayern at the end of the season, but the hierarchy may feel this isn't soon enough.

Posting on X, Sky Germany's Florian Plettenberg said: "Tuchel will definitely be the coach against Lazio. If Bayern reach the quarter-finals, regardless of how, Tuchel should stay in charge until the end of the season. But: If Bayern exit after the 0-1 loss in the first leg, an immediate separation is likely! The problem: is at this stage there isn't a single top interim option internally who should take over until the end of the season. There are currently no plans for a coach who is available now and will remain head coach beyond the season, like Zidane, to take over in case of an early Tuchel departure. The reason being, Bayern still want to sign Alonso!"

Bayern want to appoint Xabi Alonso as Tuchel's replacement for the start of next season. Alonso has led his unbeaten Bayer Leverkusen side to the top of the Bundesliga with a seven-point lead over Tuchel's Bayern. If Die Roten are to sack Tuchel, they still want Alonso in the summer.

It is make or break for Thomas Tuchel on Tuesday when Bayern host Lazio. If they manage to go through to the quarter-finals he will be allowed to leave on his own terms in the summer. Should they lose, however, the Bayern executives may need to find an interim coach for the final 10 games of the season.
