‘Got worse and worse’ – Paul Mullin told he’s ‘finished’ in scathing assessment of Wrexham’s promotion hero turned back-up striker

The 30-year-old striker is a three-time Player of the Year at SToK Racecourse, with vital contributions made to the most ambitious of projects. Mullin has hit 110 goals for Wrexham through 172 appearances, becoming a firm favourite among fans and Hollywood co-owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney.

A humbling fall from grace has, however, been endured in the 2024-25 campaign. On the back of pre-season surgery, Mullin has been restricted to just nine League One starts this season and five goals in all competitions. He has been struggling to make matchday squads of late.

Phil Parkinson has said, after further bolstering his attacking options with record signing Sam Smith and one-cap England international Jay Rodriguez: “We’ve got a lot of strikers. It’s difficult. We can’t keep everyone involved. But we will keep assessing things, looking at training all the time and picking a team, and the bench, accordingly.”

Mullin has, along with fellow cult hero Ollie Palmer, tumbled down the pecking order. Wrexham season ticket holder Chris Jones has told The Independent of why there may be no way back for a player that Red Dragons fans will always consider to be ‘Super’: “He just doesn't look the same. Whether it's that injury or a mental thing. You were thinking, ‘Well, is he going to get fit and come back to his best?’ But he got worse and worse. He looks like a player who is finished, who is gone.”

Mullin is under contract until the summer of 2027, but there appears to be little chance of him seeing that deal through. Transfer talk is already raging ahead of the next window, as Wrexham look to take another step up the EFL ladder and into the Championship.
