Goal Africa’s New Year wishes for 2021

The Ivory Coast midfield dynamo has been a rock in Stefano Pioli's team with his consistent performances week in, week out.
Kessie entered 2021 as the second-highest goalscorer for Milan with four goals, which helped them stay at the summit of the Serie A with an unbeaten run of 14 games.

I hope his presence will fire AC Milan to their first Scudetto since 2011.

While other African countries are well represented in the England's Premier League, this has not been the case with South Africa and it's nearly five years since the last Bafana Bafana international, Steven Pienaar, graced England's top flight, while playing for Everton.
It’s also more than 20 years since the likes of Lucas Radebe and Shaun Bartlett made their mark in England, which coincided with a period when Bafana were among Africa’s best.

Now, after Tau's hopes of playing for Brighton &amp; Hove Albion were set back for more than two years due to work permit issues, it seems as if he's finally going to get his chance to play in the Premiership in 2021.

I have little doubt that he's going to impress, which will restore some lost pride to South African football and also help inspire future stars.

I would love to see the FKF stream live (league matches) outside the capital city Nairobi. What I mean is almost all matches that have been screened live since the 2020-21 season kicked-off have always been aired live from Nairobi by broadcast partners StarTimes.
The provinces, by contrast, have been neglected.

It’s the eternal wish, isn’t it, but perhaps this year it will come true.
Ex-president Ahmad Ahmad has been suspended and fined by Fifa, who found him guilty of breaking their code of ethics in light of accusations of corruption and nepotism, and now finds himself unable to re-contest his position.

This opens the door to a swathe of would-be successors to compete for the role of the Caf president in March’s elections, and the various candidates all have the potential to take African football in a new—more positive—direction.

Keep a close eye on the potential successors to Ahmad as they publish their manifestos, as the identity of the new man could determine Africa’s fortunes over the next three years.

I wish for South African clubs Bloemfontein Celtic, Kaizer Chiefs, Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates to reach the Caf inter-club group&nbsp;stage and go on to reach the knockout stages.
Bafana Bafana would benefit&nbsp;from the clubs' performance on the continent, as more South African players would get exposed to Africa-wide football.

The experience gained in the Caf competitions could also help Bafana qualify for the 2022 Africa Cup of Nations and 2022 Fifa World Cup finals.

The African stars played crucial roles in helping Rangers end 2020 with an unbeaten run of 21 matches in the Premiership.
While Nigeria's Leon Balogun produced solid defensive displays for the Gers, his compatriot Joe Aribo added four league goals to his work in the middle of the park.

South Africa's Bongani Zungu is also a boost to Steven Gerrard's team, who should be targeting finishing the Premiership without tasting defeat…ending their wait for a league title in the process.

2020 was a rewarding year for the Harambee Starlets, who have given hope to the nation in contrast to their men counterparts, who offered little hope at times. 
After a dominant Cecafa Women Championship in Tanzania in 2019, where they emerged champions winning the first title for Kenya, the Starlets ushered in 2020 in the best way as some of the key players joined professional teams outside the continent. 
Mwanahalima Adam, perhaps the most talented forward Kenya boast of at the moment, joined Israeli top side Maccabi Holon on a six-month deal, goalkeeper Annette Kundu and her counterpart Ruth Ingotsi found a home at Lakatamia in Cyprus, while Vivian Corazone signed for Atletico Ourense of Portugal. 
Cynthia Shilwatso got a deal with EDF Logrono in Spain, while defender Wincate Kaari and striker Bertha Omita joined Yanga Princes and Simba Queens; arguably well-organised regional women teams. 
Simply, 2020 was a breakthrough year for Kenya’s women’s football, and further progress in 2021 would be welcome.

The 2020-21 season is a unique season in my life in that my priority of focus is not about which team wins the league or which player excels above the rest.
In this campaign, I simply want the players to get through without any serious injuries that could end careers or harm the development of youngsters.

After this, like nearly everyone, my wish is for the stadiums to be full again.

During the lockdowns, there were many who took for granted the simple pleasure of running onto the field and playing the sports we love, as well as immersing ourselves in the beautiful live interactive experience between passionate spectators and our players on the field.&nbsp;
