    WHAT HAPPENED?

The U.S. men's national team star is the subject of ongoing talks between Nottingham Forest and Borussia Dortmund, reports the Athletic, as the Premier League side push for a move during this January window. The move would be an initial loan with an option to buy as Forest are particularly keen on including that purchase option.

Sky Sports have reported that Reyna has reached a verbal agreement with Forest, with his new agent, Jorge Mendes, spearheading the deal.

Reyna's contract with Dortmund expires in June 2025 and, having started just twice this season, the American has been linked with a move throughout the January window. Clubs in the Premier League, La Liga and Ligue 1 are said to be among Reyna's potential landing spots, but Forest seem to be the club pushing hardest to get a deal over the line.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Should the move come to fruition, Reyna would join USMNT teammates Matt Turner and Ethan Horvath at the club, although the latter could soon be on the move due to his own lack of minutes. Turner has been Forest's starter for a bulk of the Premier League season, although a series of gaffes have threatened his position of late.

As for Reyna, it remains to be seen where he would fit with Forest, who could use him either out wide or centrally. The club has a pair of former starlets in Anthony Elanga and Callum Hudson-Odoi out wide, but little quality in the cover behind them, while Reyna could also push for a spot in the midfield as well.

    DID YOU KNOW?

Reyna wouldn't be the first member of his family to play in the Premier League. If he were to move to England's top flight, he would follow in the footsteps of his father, USMNT legend Claudio, who played for both Sunderland and Manchester City during his time in England.

    WHAT NEXT FOR REYNA?

Dortmund's next match is set for Sunday as they'll play host to VfL Bochum. Reyna could be gone by then, with Dortmund's recent 4-0 win over Koln being his possible last appearance with the club.

As for Forest, Turner and co. currently sit 16th in the Premier League, four points above the relegation line. Up next is a visit to Bristol City in the FA Cup on Friday before a return home to face title contenders Arsenal on January 30.
