Fulham saw Ernest Nuamah transfer collapse as Lyon star 'disappeared into thin air' after breaking down in tears during medical with Premier League club

Lyon had deemed the 20-year-old a sellable asset just a year after signing him from Belgian side RWDM. Fulham came calling late in the window and reached a €19 million (£16m/$21m) agreement with the French side, and convinced Nuamah to make the move.

However, the deal fell apart right on the brink of completion as Fulham representatives travelled to France to give him a medical. The Ghana international seemed emotionally affected and L'Equipe reports he even broke down in tears during the process. Nuamah even disappeared at one point and nobody could find him, putting an end to any hope of the move going through.

The reason behind Nuamah's breakdown was simply down to his desire to stay at Lyon and compete in the Europa League with them this season. Sensing the club wanted to get rid of him, he reluctantly accepted Fulham's offer but in the end could not go through with the move. Lyon owner John Textor sent him a message to apologise for attempting to force him out.

Nuamah joined Lyon an initial loan deal before they signed him outright in the summer. He featured 39 times in all competitions last season and played in their first two Ligue 1 matches this term before the transfer fiasco. The relationship with Lyon has reportedly been repaired and he could be back in the team for Sunday's Ligue 1 game against Lens.
