After a 4-0 thumping at the hands of the Netherlands last time out, Jesse Marsch's Canada tightened up at the back against France, putting in a dogged display on Sunday night. N'Golo Kante and Marcus Thuram went closest for the hosts - who beat Luxembourg 3-0 in midweek - in the first half, with both denied by goalkeeper Maxime Crepeau, while Canada's Liam Millar saw his effort strike the bar shortly after the break. Despite Kylian Mbappe nearly winning it at the death, neither side had the creativity to break the deadlock as the match ended goalless.

    THE MVP

Although N'Golo Kante is showing there is plenty of life left in the midfielder at the age of 33, following nearly two years away from the international stage, Alphonso Davies really returned to form for Canada. After a difficult time against the Dutch, the Bayern Munich star largely kept pacy wingers Ousmane Dembele and Kingsley Coman quiet and helped his team pick up a clean sheet.

    THE BIG LOSER

While nobody had a stinker for Didier Deschamps' men, with the French boss missing out on a 100th win as national team manager, Les Bleus' attack looked somewhat out of ideas at times. It seemed one-dimensional and for all their attacking talent they mustered just four shots on target. That will need to improve for the Euros.

  • WHAT COMES NEXT?
